Family Locator — Terms & Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-10

Family Locator shows your family on one shared live map. This page explains what that means in practice: what we collect, where it lives, who can see it, and how to make it go away.

There is no account

No email, no password, no account recovery. On first launch the app registers your device silently and stores an id and a secret in your phone's keychain. You only ever choose a display name.

What we collect

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any identity beyond what's above.

Who can see it

Only the members of a group you've explicitly joined, using a code you or they shared. There is no public directory and no way for a stranger to find you.

We never sell your data

Your location is never sold, rented, or shared with data brokers or advertisers — not in any form, not ever. This is a core reason the app exists: to be a family locator that doesn't feel like being tracked.

How it's stored

Names, coordinates, place names, and addresses are encrypted at rest (AES-256) in our database. A stolen database backup is not readable without the separate encryption key, which is never stored alongside it.

Our server runs on infrastructure located in Germany. The operator of this app is based in Turkey. Because of this, using the app involves a cross-border transfer of your data from Turkey to Germany — this is why we ask for your explicit, separate agreement to this during setup, rather than bundling it into a general "I agree to everything" checkbox.

How long we keep it

Live location (where you are right now) is kept only as long as it's current. Location history is off by default for every group — a group's owner can turn it on with a retention window of 24 hours or 7 days, and it's automatically purged past that window.

Your rights

Subscriptions

Optional paid features are billed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment details — that's handled end-to-end by Apple/Google and our billing provider (RevenueCat).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what data we collect or how it's used, we'll ask for your consent again rather than silently updating this page.
